Today Amazon Studios released the second official trailer for Beautiful Boy.
The film stars Timothée Chalamet, Steve Carrell, Maura Tierney, and Amy Ryan (all of which are Oscar and/Golden Globe winners or nominees). I’ve been excited to see this film since it was announced – initially for the cast. I LOVE Timothée Chalamet ever since I saw him in Call Me By Your Name and then he played the “intellectual” high schooler of my fifteen year old self’s dreams in Lady Bird. And as a huge fan of The Office it’s very cool (and come on, kind of funny) to see Michael and Holly in the same movie but seriously, it’s been a joy seeing Steve Carell grow as an actor outside of The Office. I’ve really enjoyed everything he’s done since.
The film is based on a pair of memoirs from father and son David and Nic Sheff and chronicles how the family deals with Nic’s addiction, relapse, and recovery over many years. Addiction is a huge problem in our country and it’s something that almost everyone can relate to, either personally or you know someone who has dealt with it. I think there is a big misconception about addiction and the “profile” of someone who is an addict and I hope this film will educate and show people that addiction can affect anyone – it has no prejudice. I also recommend watching the documentary Heroin: Cape Cod, USA. It gives a raw look into this epidemic, how it often starts, and how it not only affects the addict but their loved ones as well.
Beautiful Boy will be released in theaters in the U.S. on October 12th, 2018.
